View DetailsOur group of friendly and fun-loving horse enthusiasts represent a variety of riding and driving disciplines and breed of horse, including mules. In addition to enjoying lots of trail riding opportunities, our members also participate in a variety of social activities with like-minded horse lovers. For instance, our members have enjoyed educational programs by professionals from a wide variety of equine-related fields, participated in horsemanship clinics, toured horse-related businesses, appeared in the Delaware All Horse Parade and taken group trips to the Equine Affaire and The Wilds. Our chapter also hosts our annual “Fun”-raiser event referred to as our “Autumn At Alum Trail Ride & Campout”. Held in September, this event showcases our beautiful Alum Creek bridle trails as the vibrant Fall foliage starts to emerge. Campers and guests enjoy evening festivities featuring an entertaining live auction, raffle prizes and of course, delicious potluck food.
It is not necessary for any of our members to own a horse in order to partake in the fun and camaraderie!
We are most proud of the fact that our members donate close to 2000 volunteer hours each year to the maintenance and improvement of the bridle trails at our ‘adopted park’, Alum Creek State Park. Demonstrating the OHC motto of “Horsemen helping Horsemen”, our chapter volunteers work diligently throughout the year clearing trails, establishing new re-routes, building and maintaining platforms, cleaning the campground and more, all with the goal of providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all horseback riding visitors. In total, our chapter is responsible for the care of 40 miles of bridle trails consisting of Winterhawk West, Winterhawk East, Hunter’s Hollow and Maple Glen, including the Flats.
In addition to our stewardship of the Alum Creek bridle trails, we also serve our community by performing volunteer service activities such as litter pickup along our Adopt-A-Highway mile of SR 36/37.
We welcome and encourage guests to join us at an upcoming chapter meeting or drop us an email or phone call to learn more about our chapter and Ohio Horseman’s Council. Our meetings are generally held the first Friday of the month beginning at 7:00 pm at the Kilbourne United Methodist Church, 5591 State Rte. 521, Kilbourne, OH. Occasionally, our group meetings have been held “off site” at the Alum Creek horseman’s campground shelter pavilion, for example, weather permitting. Guests are always welcome!
We invite you to join our chapter. In so doing, you will be helping to support the beautiful trails of Alum Creek State Park, which are truly a “hidden gem” in our central Ohio region. Both Primary Membership and Secondary (Multiple chapter) Membership forms are available for download from this web page (Please note: there is an additional $5.00 chapter charge to help fund ongoing Alum Creek bridle trail maintenance projects).
We look forward to seeing you at one of our meetings or on the trail!
