Riding or leading if you prefer, you must wear a helmet and bring your own equine companion. The Cleveland MetroParks open at 6 AM and close at 11 PM, but please plan to exit Edgewater Beach after the ride as it is not a designated horse area, and horses are only permitted while the Cleveland Metroparks staff and volunteers are present.
Please allow yourself plenty of loading and travel time. The number of horses in each segment is limited so they cannot add you to the next group if you are late.
If you are traveling from a distance and would like to stay in the area a day or two, check with Rocky River Stables for short term boarding with a stall or new this year the Cleveland Metroparks are allowing some permit overnight horse camping. For more information on Permit Horse Camping in Cleveland Metroparks contact Aubrey at the Metroparks for a permit.  216-635-3310

Photographers, companions and the public must stay outside of the cordoned area for the safety of all. There are several nice vantage points for photography of the horses playing in the sandy area at the back of the designated area and rocks jut out past the shore which give a nice perspective of horses entering the water as well. The park will make every attempt to have a professional photographer inside the perimeter for each session, but it is not guaranteed.

The Ride the Beach Event, a fund raiser presented by the Mounted Police Unit, returns this year, and Cuyahoga County OHC is a Presenting Level
Sponsorship. It’s hosted at Edgewater Beach in Cleveland Ohio with 3 event dates to consider:  October 11, 12, and 13. Exact Ride times will be announced this summer.
Ride the Beach drives awareness to the public about Cleveland Metroparks Mounted Unit, which has been serving the parks and community for over 100
years. All event proceeds assist our Mounted Unit in purchasing specialized equipment, in addition to offering specialized equine care.  The Ride the Beach event is not hosted by Cuyahoga County Ohio Horseman’s Council and is open to all riders.  Spectators are welcome as well.  For your safety and the safety of the riders and horses please stay outside of the area marked off for the event.

RIDE THE BEACH! This Cleveland Metroparks Mounted Police annual fundraiser is a very popular event in northeast Ohio. Tickets sell out in hours after sales are posted so plan to register ASAP July 26th at 9:00 AM. You will be taken on a tour of the Edgewater Beach area, and up to the famous Cleveland sign for photos all in small groups, led by one of the mounted unit riders. After that you will be able to ride along the sandy shores of Lake Erie on a roped off area just for horses. Gallop if you will or just take a leisurely ride. You can also go out into the lake with your horse to enjoy the water and even a swim. You don’t want to miss this October event. Watch the Cleveland Metroparks website for more information to come.  The Mounted Police Unit has been spotted riding and helping in many areas of the park.   Penny Passalacqua
