Description
Hello trail riders! Welcome to the Cuyahoga, Medina, Summit County State Ride!
I’m sharing some information with you about the ride. You will receive a welcome packet, but here are a few other “bits” of information.
1) There are NO assigned or marked sites. First come first serve. We will try to accommodate any requests.
2) There is potable water. Please share the water taps. No special equipment for personal use.
3) There are Port-a-Johns and the park has a permanent one with handicap access and we will rent another one for the weekend.
4) There will again be guided rides. You will be able to sign up when you arrive at the Park.
5) All money from the Obstacle Course fees will go to the Cleveland Metroparks Mounted Unit. The course will be different from last year.
6) There will be more tie-lines for your use this year.
7) Bring your gently used tack, home goods, etc. for our auction and $5 and $10 tables.
8) Instead of a dessert, please bring a pair of new socks or gloves to be donated to a veteran’s organization from OHC.
A donation box will be at the Welcome Canopy and monetary donations will be taken as well.
9) The host chapters will provide desserts.
10) Auction paddles will be provided for the auction.
11) Please carry your ID card and any medical card on your person when you ride or participate in the Obstacle Course! This is for your safety.
Attached is the current schedule for the weekend’s activities. A copy with any changes will be in your ride packet. Attached also, is a Liability Waiver from OHC. Please just read the attached waiver. You will sign it when you register.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Rosemary Young. Contact information below.
Looking forward to seeing you!
Join Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit Ohio Horseman’s Council Chapters at the Chagrin Polo Fields in the Cleveland Metroparks. Friday will be registration and parking starting at noon with Pizza and dessert for supper provided by DAC. For the ride activity, Saturday morning will be the challenging class run by the Cleveland MetroParks Mounted Police to help you gain trust and control of your horse and yourself in situations that you might find while riding on the road or in a parade or perhaps something or someone scary on the trail. Most will choose to ride in this class, but you may also lead/walk with your horse if you need to build confidence before you face the challenges in the saddle. There is a $25 donation to participate in this class with the Cleveland Metropark Mounted Police Unit and you must wear a helmet to participate in the two hour activity and sometimes games if there is time after the lesson. We will have guided rides in the afternoon, so you won’t miss out on the beautiful trails if you participate in the class. There will be the popular $5 table so please bring any unwanted items that someone else might love to take home with them. It can be tack or household items like books and decor, and apparel. There will also be a live auction of donated items and things purchased with our Big Dees Bonus Bucks. Please consider asking your employer or favorite retailer for a donation for the live auction or smaller items for the $5 table. Hot supper will be served with a potluck of desserts supplied by members of the three host OHCs. Camping will have electric connections available at the end of the rows so bring an extension cord. You may bring portable pens, and we have some highlines. Tent camping is allowed if you do not have a camping rig or sometimes people set up a cot in their horse trailer. Bring a chair for the campfire. There is room to spread out and have a cozy place to park on the field. Campfires are not allowed at your site, but there is a nice firepit behind the Pavilion with wood supplied by the park. Day riders and spectators are welcome. The Chagrin River runs along the back of the polo field so bring your water shoes if you like to play in the water. There is also a field away from the horses on the other side of the Pavilion if you like to play frisbee or run around with a ball. Dogs must be on a leash. This is an Ohio Horseman’s Council State Ride Event for OHC members if you are camping overnight.
