The 5000 acre Oak Openings Preserve is an oak savannah ecosystem characterized by alternating wetlands and vegetated dunes. The 15 mile bridle trail winds through sand dunes, oak savannahs, wet prairies, and pine forests on natural surfaces, mostly sand.
The trailhead, Horse Riders Center, located at 5840 Jeffers Rd is a large gravel parking area for horse trailers. There are tie rails, water, restrooms and a picnic shelter available. The Oak Opening Preserve bridle trails connect with the 60 mile Wabash Cannonball Trail and the Maumee State Forest bridle trails.
