The Penitentiary Glen Reservation features predominately hardwood forests with some open fields and wetlands and 8.5 miles of multi-use trails for hikers, bikers and equestrians. The park is divided by a gorge, up to 100 ft deep in parts, which give the park it’s name. Parts of the bridle trail follow this gorge which leads to some significant slopes and shallow stream crossings. Other parts of the trail pass open fields, wetlands and a pond. Treadways are gravel or other natural surfaces. Trailer parking is immediately inside the entrance on the grassy area on the left. No amenities but restrooms are available nearby. These trails are supported and maintained by the Lake County OHC.
