The 70-acre Thayer Ridge Park comprises open fields and woodlots adjacent to the now-closed county landfill and across the street from the Knox County Horse Park. In conjunction with the Knox County Park District, the Knox County OHC designed and built 6 miles of bridle trail through these open meadows and woodlots. The trails are primitive, single-track on natural surface on relatively flat terrain. There are some creek crossings, some bridged. These are shared use trails with hikers, horsemen and mountain bikers. The horseman’s trailhead has gravel parking area large enough for several trailers with picnic tables, tie rails but no other amenities.
