The 2600-acre Michael J. Kirwan Lake is surrounded by 2700 acres of open fields, brushwood and hardwood forests forming West Branch State Park.
On the north side of the lake, 20 miles of bridle trails weave through this landscape on the gently rolling terrain and ravines leading to the lake on natural surfaces. There are many water crossings and seasonal wet/muddy spots. There is a spacious wooded campsite with high lines, stock water, picnic tables and restrooms. There is a separate day-use parking area with room for at least 10 trailers. Restroom and mounting block. Camping is by reservation only either by calling (866) 644-6727 or on line at http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/westbranch#activitiesor . Entrance gate at Copeland Road and Esworthy Road may be locked.
