Highland County Chapter Ohio Horseman's Council

For Immediate Release:

In October of 2025 the Highland County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman’s Council joined
local 4-H/Jr Fairboard members in raising funds to cover the cost of materials to update
the Highland County Horse Barn. The current barn was built in 1960. Other than new
electric lights, basic maintenance by parents, family members and participants is all that
has occurred until the summer of 2025. This summer the 4/H/Jr Fairboard members
raised and paid for new metal on the North and South ends of the barn.

This fall/winter the group has moved forward with the plan to improve the barn. Donna
Griffith has been the power house behind this movement by promoting the need and
taking it to the fairboard. The local 4-H members and family have jumped in to support
the vision of a new, safer barn for the horses, riders, families and public. Two weekends
in January has resulted in a shell ready for new stalls.

The current budget materials have been obtained for each phase and will cost over a
hundred thousand dollars. This will provide better circulation in the stall with all metal

stall doors, easily cleaned, disinfected and maintained aisleways and stall with concrete flooring, and study, safe walls made from pine tongue and groove boards.

The groups have already provided huge in kind donations with removal of the previous
stall wood, nails and other debris. The riders are learning valuable skills that will allow

them to participate in horse care in the future as well as other carpentry skills that are
needed at home and on the farm.

The groups are working on continued fundraisers to obtain adequate funding for
materials with the hope being that much of the labor can be done by families, riders and
friends. Watch for future events like raffles, bingo, trail rides and more. If you are interested in helping out with donations or

labor please contact Donna Griffth at (937) 556-9623.
