State Trail Ride – Caesar Creek State Park
Located in southwest Ohio, the 3741-acre Caesar Creek State Park offers 37 miles of bridle trails through open meadows, fields and forests adjacent to Caesar Creek Lake and Caesar Creek. They vary in length in length, terrain, treadways and difficulty. See additional information in Gallery. The horseman’s camp has 23 primitive campsites, tie rails and picket posts, stock water, restrooms and a shelter house. Warren County OHC supports and maintains these trails. About 20 miles of trails are maintained by the Jefferson Co. and Carroll Co. chapters of the Ohio Horseman’s Council. Most are narrow trails and can be steep in places. The trails are well-marked and shared with hike and bike although you will not see bike and maybe a few hikers picking berries or mushrooms. Dry in most areas but can be wet on Logan and Trillium. Barkcamp State Park has 27 electric sites in a large, shady campground for equestrians. There is a horse wash area, potable water, high lines and large pavillion for gathering together for dinner. 2022 State Trail Ride – Scioto Trails State Forest
This 9,000 acre state forest, named after a Native-American trail which ran from Chillicothe to Portsmouth, lies within the Scioto River valley. There are 26 miles of multi-use trails which wind through the forested hills and valleys of the forest on primitive, single-track natural-surface treadways. Five separate trails of 35 miles of trails weave through the hardwood forests on the south side of the Mohican River. The trails range from wide enough for 2-3 horses to single-track and all are on natural surfaces. Trail is shared with mountain bikes on short sections of the blue trail. The 300-acre Van Buren State Park is quietly nestled in a small but valued remnant of woodland surrounded by beautiful corn, wheat and soybean fields.
